As we continue our look at UDFAs heading into camp our focus shifts to a highly effective linebacker out of FAU" Roster Projections49ers 90-in-90 roster breakdownUDFA profile: LB Azeez Al-Shaair New Womens Solomon Thomas Jersey ,16commentsAs we continue our look at UDFAs heading into camp our focus shifts to a highly effective linebacker out of FAUPDTAs training camp approaches, we are continually taking a look at players up and down the 90 man roster. There has been a wealth of talent added to the defensive side of the ball - specifically on the defensive line and, partially, at linebacker - but is there any room left for undrafted free agents to make the squad come week 1? Only time will tell! For now, though, let us take a quick look at one of San Francisco’s UDFAs: linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair out of Florida Atlantic. At a GlanceCollege: Florida AtlanticPosition: Linebacker.Height: 6’2” Weight: 234 lbsCareer statistics (college): 395 total tackles Terrell Owens Jersey White , 31 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, one interceptionStrengths and WeaknessesAzeez Al-Shaair had a knack for being around the ball carrier, and it showed as he was a tackling fiend in 2016 and 2017 - he amassed a combined 258 total tackles over those two seasons. Over that time, Al-Shaair also had 21 tackles for loss (4.5 sacks), so he has a keen sense of getting into the backfield and disrupting plays on a fairly consistent basis. One major knock on Azeez Al-Shaair is that he isn’t super reliable in pass coverage - that couple with the fact that he suffered a knee injury that knocked him out of the 2018 season would be reasons why he went undrafted.Odds of Making the TeamThe 49ers inked Kwon Alexander to a pretty lucrative deal during the offseason and Womens Adrian Colbert Jersey , while he’s young, he is still coming off an injury that shouldn’t preclude the team from still providing depth behind him at linebacker. Fred Warner is flourishing into an impressive player. Malcolm Smith has not lived up to his contract at all. Other than that, the linebacking corps contains names like Elijah Lee, rookie Dre Greenlaw (who could challenge as a starter), and Mark Nzeocha. If anything I could see Al-Shaair making the team as a depth piece at LB while getting regular reps on the special teams squad. As long as he can stay healthy, he should be able to Womens Fred Warner Jersey , at least, be a nice depth piece for a defense that is on the rise. And the game ball doesn’t go to any San Francisco 49er coach or player on the field, but a former offensive coordinator. George Kittle says that Kyle Shanahan awarded the game ball to his father, Mike Shanahan. Mike Shanahan was offensive coordinator for the 49ers back in the 90s, winning a Super Bowl with Steve Young. Going into their game on Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers had a bit of a personal issue with Washington. Head coach Kyle Shanahan was offensive coordinator under his father Mike for the organization from 2010-2013 and the relationship didn’t end on the best of terms. The 49ers managed to shut out Washington in their house in the worst of field conditions. These could scream home-field advantage Bradley Pinion Jersey , but the 49ers defense clamped down and didn’t allow a single score, let alone many trips into their side of the field for Washington. Washington has their own front office and coaching issues having fired Jay Gruden during the 2019 season and dealing with Bruce Snyder/Dennis Allen in the front office.Having the offensive coordinator they fired come back into their house with a team he built from the ground-up (with John Lynch) into a 6-0 squad and punch them in the mouth is the ultimate “how do you like me now?” moment. Meanwhile, the 49ers have work to do. While they won the game in a gritty defensive battle, the elements were not kind. While we can make excuses for the weather, the offense still failed to score a touchdown any way you look at it and they had a couple nice opportunities to. But the stars of the game today were the Shanahans, who Kittle said the team was motivated to get a win for. Kyle Shanahan can call an offense Solomon Thomas Jersey White , and he’s quickly proving he knows how to build a team from scratch, but Kittle also identifies another important piece: Shanahan’s players play hard for him. There’s so many stories about coaches losing the locker room or teams quitting on the coach, yet the 49ers play hard for Shanahan even in previous seasons when there was nothing left to play for. This guy can flat-out coach. And his team helped him get a personal win for him and his old man. |
